Let the thing be pressed…….
Abraham Lincoln’s words are so fitting. So precise. Simple, yet deeply profound.
With a note less than 25 words, Abraham Lincoln wrote the words that marked the end of the Civil War.
“Gen. Sheridan says, “If the thing is pressed, I think that Lee will surrender.” Let the thing be pressed.”
Abraham Lincoln’s words cause me to pause and reflect on my own life….what needs pressing in my personal life, in my business life?
What is the thing that, with a bit more pressure applied to it, would produce results? Would additional pressing even produce a victory?
It is easy to allow the urgent to distract us from the important. A million minute details of the day keep us from getting to the ONE THING that would make a difference….
What is your ONE THING?
…connecting with a new client?
…writing for 30 minutes on a book or article?
…calling the one person who keeps popping up in your mind – perhaps a business contact or a family relationship that needs nurturing.
…developing a business plan.
…getting advice and mentoring from a trusted friend.
…mentoring a blossoming apprentice.
We all have the important items that are put on the back burner.
Unfortunately, the neglect of those precious dreams and relationships will materialize into regret later in life.
You will forget the details of the day by next week.
Moving towards purposeful work and building will not be quickly forgotten. Making productive steps, one at a time, is what will bring the culmination of your effort to fulfillment.
What do you need to do today?
Press the thing.
